At the Nova Scotia Major Midget League Awards banquet held on Saturday, April 8 in Truro, Cape Breton West Islanders defenseman Mark Trickett was awarded the league’s Top Defenseman Award.  Mark was the highest scoring defenseman in the league with 18 goals and 20 assists for 38 points in 34 regular season games. The 16 year old defenseman received his award from League Commissioner Judge David Ryan.
Islanders Team Captain Brandon Lee MacKinnon was presented with the 2012 Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the QMJHL Team Scholarship Award for his Academic and Athletic performance. Islanders Team President Brian MacInnis presented Team Manager Darryl MacDonald with the Islanders “Team Volunteer of the Year” award for his dedicated service to the Islanders team over the past year.
Port Hood native Bruce Beaton who is 13 year CFL veteran and 2 times Grey Cup winner was the guest speaker at the NSMMHL banquet. He is shown below speaking about “The Power of Sport” to the 260 people who attended the banquet.
