FORMER CAPE BRETON WEST ISLANDER GETS ACADEMIC AWARD
HALIFAX, NS, November 16, 2012 - A Nova Scotia native and member of the Dalhousie University Tigers men's hockey team has been recognized by his university for his academic prowess.

Ben MacAskill of Aulds Cove received the $5,000 TD Insurance Leadership Award Thursday.

The award is presented to the male and female student-athlete at Dalhousie University with the highest cumulative grade point average after their third year of studies.

MacAskill is in his third year of eligibility with the Tigers; the fourth-year kinesiology student is a two-time academic all-Canadian with a 4.1 grade average.

He is a former captain of both the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Junior Hockey League and member of the Cape Breton West Islanders Major Midget Hockey Club.
